Dune(s): Fiction, History, Science (website).

What connects Dune, the sci-fi book, to dunes, the natural ecosystems? The answer is the shifting sands of the Oregon coast. This is the story of the dunes stabilization programs developed on the US Northern Pacific Coast, that influenced Frank Herbert to write his great novel. (From the Story Map)

Dune(s): Fiction, History, Science is an interactive story map created by Sea, Sand and People: An Environmental History of Coastal Dunes, a research project being developed at the School of Arts and Humanities of the University of Lisbon (Portugal). DUNES is funded by the European Research Council (ERC) under the European Union’s Horizon 2020 Research and Innovation Programme (Grant Agreement no. 802918).
