Er muß ein volles Verständnis für die verschiedenartigen Aufgaben haben, und muß überall die Ausführung dieser Arbeiten anregen und Hilfe dabei verschaffen; denn dem einzelnen ist weder die Anlage der Einrichtungen, noch die Durchführung ihres Betriebes möglich. Während bei dieser Station das Hauptgewicht auf dauernde Einrichtungen gelegt werden muß, ist das entgegengesetzte bei der Schiffsexpedition der Fall. Das Schiff soll ja womöglich den Platz im Polarsommer verändern. Daher kann zwar auch hier ein Stationshaus am Lande errichtet werden, doch wird es jedenfalls nicht größer sein dürfen als unser Haus, aber kleiner und primitiver. Vielleicht nur ein solches Haus, wie Frankens, und in ihm sollte hauptsächlich der Meteorologe wohnen. Dies Haus kann dann stehen bleiben als Stütz-
