Barnes, James, et al., eds., Earth First! Journal 17, no. 8 (20 September 1997). Republished by the Environment & Society Portal, Multimedia Library. http://www.environmentandsociety.org/node/7028.

In this issue of Earth First! Journal James Barnes writes a dark vision of the future, Lacey Phillabaum tells the story of Greenpeace’s uprising, and Marty Bergoffen sheds light on the Endangered Species Recovery Act.

The glorious revolution will not free this land; the rising of the oppressed against the capitalist master will fail. The worker will not triumph over the ruling class, nor will women and persecuted peoples gain equality in a brave new world. The planet will not be “saved” by people’s new ecological consciousness.
