In this issue of Earth First! Journal Christine Halvorson reports about the march of indigenous Brazilians against 500 years of oppression, and Edward May sheds light on the slaughter of sea lions in British Columbia. The issue also features stories from various actions against capitalism during May Day 2000.
Leading up to the march, organizers brought together various social movements: the student movement, the environmental movement, and the Landless Workers Movement (MST). Over the past several years, through direct action and land occupations, the MST has worked to counter the unequal distribution of land in Brazil, where the richest 20 percent hold 90 percent of the land, and the poorest 40 percent own just one percent.
