Stähli, Manfred, and Marcel Hürlimann. “Natural Hazards and Risks in Alpine Environments - From Science to Early Warning Systems.” Presentation at the 2016 CCES Conference, ETH Zurich, 10 February 2016, TIB AV-Portal, 8:22, https://doi.org/10.5446/35021. CC BY-NC-ND 2.5 CH.

This joint presentation by Manfred Stähli of the Swiss Federal Institute for Forest, Snow, and Landscape Research (WSL), and Marcel Hürlimann of the Technical University of Catalonia (UPC) and Barcelona TECH relates to forecasting, or how “to better forecast and manage the consequences of weather and climate-related disasters, in particular regarding emergency responses, improved measures, and technologies.” The focused outcome of the session was a warning tool and product for Europe, and eventually the world.

The aim of the 2016 Competence Center Environment and Sustainability (CCES) Conference “Grand Challenges in Environmental and Sustainability Science and Technology” was to give an account of the state-of-the art knowledge in the five research areas covered by CCES and how this knowledge can contribute to solving various pressing societal problems.
