Protests against agricultural use of the Little Desert

The protests began after the state government of Victoria announced that it would use parts of the area’s desert region for agricultural purposes. Local resistance to these plans quickly drew support from across Australia. Soon afterwards, a study commissioned by Victoria’s government reached the conclusion that the Little Desert could not be cultivated into productive farmland, contradicting the government’s prior assertion that the Little Desert had high agricultural value.
