Forest Survey in Saxe-Weimar

The comprehensive forest survey conducted in the German duchy of Saxe-Weimar in 1760 was among the first of its kind. It was carried out under the auspices of Duchess Anna Amalia (1739–1807), who wished to see a new and sustainable system of forest management incorporating principles first outlined by Hans Carl von Carlowitz (1645–1714). Subsequent reforms led to the establishment of stable organizational structures required for the system’s implementation.
