EU Sustainability Strategy

In 2006, the European Council adopted a sustainability strategy for the European Union that built on the Gothenburg strategy of 2001. The most important goals outlined in this strategy included the mitigation of climate change, the increased use of clean energy, the responsible treatment of natural resources, addressing dangers to public health, and improvements to the traffic system and land use. The most important instrument to the implementation of the sustainability strategy was the EU’s Environmental Action Program.
