[078] 15. August [1912]. Um ½ 9 Uhr aufgestanden, nach 12 ½ stündigem Schlaf. Nachts war Vigfus 3 mal, ich einmal auf, um die Pferde von den Heusäcken fortzujagen. Gloë half dabei nach Kräften, aber nicht alle Pferde haben Respekt vor ihm. Gegen ½ 12 Uhr kamen wir fort: wir gingen zu Fuß hin zum Inlandeise. Der Haupt-Elv erhält hier einen kleinen Zufluß der offenbar als Oberflächenbach auf dem Eise läuft, sich aber am Rande eine tiefe Schlucht ausgenagt hat, worin er einen kleinen Fall bildet. [078] 15 August [1912]. We woke up at 8:30, after 12 ½ hours of sleep. Vigfus got up 3 times during the night and I got up once to chase the horses away from the hay sacks. Gloë helped as best he could, but not all the horses respect him. At about 11:30 we set out on foot towards the ice sheet. The main elv [Danish: “river”] has a little tributary that is apparently only a surface stream flowing over the ice. It has formed a deep ravine with a small waterfall. I took several photographs of it.
