[006] bewaffnet, die Eiskante noch etwa eine Meile weiter entlang, um noch einen anderen Aufstiegspunkt in Augenschein zu nehmen. Diese Spaziertour auf dem spiegelblanken Neueise war herrlich, ich erhielt auch einige Photographien von prächtigen Motiven, und hätte noch viel mehr aufgenommen, wenn die Sonne nicht auf der verkehrten Seite gestanden hätte. Die Formen dieser Steilwand waren sehr mannigfaltig, obwohl die ganze Linie frischen Bruch zeigte. Nirgends tritt hier die schmutzige Grundmoräne zu Tage, sauber und glänzend weiß wie Porzellan sah das Ganze aus. An einigen Stellen hatte der Bruch basaltähnliche Säulen hervorgebracht, an anderen war er „muschelig“ oder schalig, in großen Linien. Die Oberfläche des Eises war hier fast eben, und die großen Eisberge,

[006] We moved along the edge of the ice for about a mile in search of other spots from which to get onto the ice sheet. This walk across the mirror-like new ice was wonderful, and I was able to take several photographs of the beautiful sights we came across. I would have taken many more if the sun hadn’t been on the wrong side. There were many different shapes on the steep face, while the entire line seemed to be the result of a relatively fresh break. There was nothing of the dirty main moraine here; everything here was clean and shiny white; everything looked like porcelain. In some spots, the break had created basalt-like pillars, in others, “shell-like” in long stripes. The surface of the ice was almost even here, and the larger icebergs,
