[128] 2. Sept. morgens, Di[enstag] [1930]. Über Nacht ist noch wieder etwas Neuschnee gefallen, bei Windstille. Das ganze Inlandeis ist jetzt überall mit ca 20 cm ziemlich lockerem Neuschnee bedeckt, in den man etwas 10 cm tief einsinkt, und oben darauf liegt noch 1 cm ganz feiner lockerer Schnee,. Das Zelt ist von ½ m hohen Schneewehen umgeben, und es besteht die Gefahr, daß allerlei unter dem Schnee verborgen liegt und verloren geht. Es ist auch jetzt noch sehr warm, -2°, aber schon die kleine Temperaturerniedrigung macht den Schnee etwas weniger backig und der aufklarende Himmel läßt uns hoffen. Leider ist Weiken mit seinen Grönländern weder gestern noch vorgestern gekommen, recht ärgerlich, da wir ihn doch brauchen. Vielleicht werden wir heute einen Versuch mit einem leeren Schlitten machen, um die abgesteckte Route

[128] Tu[esday], 2 September. Morning [1930]. Fresh snow fell again last night; the wind was calm. The entire ice sheet is covered with about 20 cm of loose, fresh snow, which sinks in about 10 cm beneath us, and on top of this, there is 1 cm of fine, loose snow. The tent is surrounded by ½ m of high snow drifts, and there is a danger that something will get lost underneath the snow. It is still very warm, -2º, but even the small decrease in temperature makes the snow somewhat less sticky, and the increasingly clear sky gives us hope. Unfortunately, Weiken and his Greenlanders did not return yesterday, or the day before—quite annoying since we need him. Perhaps we will make an attempt with an empty sled to test the marked route
