Catalyst for Transition: The Anschluss, Kaprun, and a Dual Energy Transition, 1938–1955

The Kaprun hydroelectric facility occupies an extremely important position in both the Austrian and central European electricity supply. But the project has an ambiguous history due to its connections with the National Socialist period. This essay considers how the Kaprun project launched by Germany drove two critical but neglected energy transitions in postwar Austria.
