There’s no kick below the belt that hurts quite so much as losing after you’ve thought you’ve won.

— Dave Foreman

Dave Foreman begins this Earth First! issue’s editorial by discussing the arrest of the Earth First! members Neil Cobb and Bob Seeley at the Salt Creek Wilderness, New Mexico. Cobb and Seeley stood their ground along the Yates Petroleum Company towing road while holding up a banner with the words “Love It or Leave It” to stop the drilling of natural gas in the middle of the wilderness. Their peaceful protest ended in handcuffs and a trip to the Chaves County jail in Roswell. Apart from this news, Chim Blea discusses the domestication of animals, Spurs Jackson gives readers a list of “Books to Be Read Before Burning,” and Art Goodtimes tells the saga of Navajo Sam.
