As the term “Anthropocene” becomes more popular, disproportionate emphasis is being placed on climate. Barnes argues that the focus on human-environment relations from the perspective of climate change alone is simply too narrow. It ignores other factors affecting and shaping society that are just as relevant, but hardly new. She further illustrates the reality of how various stakeholders understand and respond to climate change—often society experiences climate change through the lens of political and technical decisions, rather than as an environmental crisis.
