Ruth Sandwell examines people’s energy-related experiences in the transition from the organic to the mineral fuel regime in Canada. She argues that by situating energy use within the household and contexts of everyday life, we might better understand the uses and significance of energy, and how it affects users’ behavior. Sandwell’s close examination of patterns of everyday energy use demonstrates that energy transitions have been highly variable, intermittent, overlapping and, in some cases, strongly resisted.
