Ecovillage at Ithaca could be thought of as an “alternative suburb,” or as a US middle class neighborhood with an ecological focus and a high awareness of community. It is one of the best-studied ecovillages in the world, and it makes a lot of information about the community publicly available on its website. Research reveals both the successes and failures of the ecovillage and includes such topics as studies of the community’s ecological footprint, the processes of building community life, attitudes towards consensus decision-making, and changes in participation rates in community traditions.
