"Earthrise" image

In December 1968, the first images of Planet Earth are taken by NASA astronaut William Anders, a member of the Apollo 8 team. This iconic image later became known as “Earthrise.” It changed many people’s perception about the finiteness and fragility of the planet. The image also inspired the modern environmental movement to use metaphors such as “Spaceship Earth” or slogans such as “Only One Earth,” to raise public awareness for the global cause of environmental protection.
