First European Species in Oceania

Europeans introduced not only culturally valued species of flora and fauna from their homelands, but also innumerable invaders that accidentally caused severe damage to the indigenous ecosystems. Many fragile, insular environments in the South Pacific region were transformed and degraded by this blending of the world’s biota.
