Foundation of first silver miners' guild

In 1188, one of the first guilds in Europe was founded by silver miners in Goslar in the Harz Mountains of Germany. With the emergence of European mining industries in the eleventh and twelfth centuries, the risks of mining became a serious concern among the workers. Concerns about these dangers contributed to the establishment of the first organized guilds, which called for safety measures and support after accidents.
