John Franklin Surveys Canadian Arctic

In his second expedition to the Canadian Arctic, in 1825–1827, the British explorer, John Franklin (1786–1847), successfully surveyed a long stretch of the Arctic shoreline from the Mackenzie River, westward to Return Reef, and eastward to the mouth of the Coppermine. The Franklin expedition established Fort Franklin, today called Deline, as a winter quarter and staging area at the Great Bear Lake.
