United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification

The UN International Convention to Combat Desertification recognized desertification, which threatens 25% of the earth’s land, as a major economic, social, and environmental problem. Adopted in 1994, the convention entered into force in December 1996. It calls for international cooperation to improve land productivity, rehabilitation of land, conservation, and sustainable management of land and water resources.
