Winter Storms "Lothar" and "Martin"

When storm “Lothar” hit the European mainland, it left a trail of destruction from Northwestern France to Southern Germany and Switzerland. The next day, another severe storm, “Martin,” hit Southern France and Northern Spain. Together the storms killed 110 people, uprooted almost two hundred million cubic meters of trees, and caused about billions in damages, making them among the most destructive ever recorded in Europe.
