Die arktisch-technischen Erfahrungen, die ich hier sammle und die Photographien sind allein so viel wert, daß es sich der 2 Jahre lohnt. Im übrigen hoffe ich dennoch gutes Drachen- und Ballonmaterial mit heimzubringen, ebenso gute meteorologische Beobachtungen, leidliche magnetische und schlechte luftelektrische. Das ist ja auch genug. Eine einzige wirkliche Entdeckung ist mehr wert als 10 dicke Beobachtungsbände.

The Arctic-specific experiences that I am gathering here, as well as the photographs, are of such great value on their own that it is worth the 2 years. Incidentally, I also still hold out hope of bringing home good kite and balloon material, equally good meteorological observations, acceptable magnetic ones and poor atmospheric electricity ones. That is enough. A single true discovery is worth more than 10 thick volumes of observations.
