[025] Merkwürdigerweise hat M.E. gleichzeitig nördlich von Sabine-Insel nur soviel Wind gehabt, daß er noch reisen konnte, wenn er auch die Nase etwas erfror, und bei Cap Bras wurde Windstille notiert! Am Abend wurde es still, und am folgenden Morgen brachen wir auf! Wir suchten zuerst das kleine Proviant an der NW-Spitze von Sabine Insel auf, und hier mußten wir unsere Schlitten schwer belasten, um alles was die anderen zurückgelassen hatten, mitzunehmen. Dann legten wir noch eine tüchtige Strecke zurück und übernachteten mitten auf dem Eise zwischen Shannon, Khun und Sabine-Insel. Eine phantastische Reise ist es doch, im Mondschein auf diesen Schnee-und Eisgefilden! Wir begannen immer gegen 10 Uhr mit der Tagesdämmerung, an die sich dann der Mondschein anschloß. Auch der nächste Tag brachte uns eine lange Reise. Wir hatten jetzt fast immer Temperaturen unter -10°, aber es war völlig windstill, und so merkte man es

[025] Strangely enough, at the same time M.E. had such a calm wind to the north of Sabine Island that he could journey onwards, even though he got a frozen nose, and windless conditions were recorded at Cape Bras! In the evening, the wind died down and we set off the following morning! We first sought out the provisions at the NW tip of Sabine Island, and here we had to load our sleds heavily in order to transport everything that the others had left behind. We then covered a respectable distance and spent the night in the middle of the ice between Shannon, Khun and Sabine Island. It is indeed a fantastic experience to travel in the moonlight across these realms of ice and snow! We set off each day at dusk, which was around 10 [pm] and was followed directly by the moonlight.
