Die Hunde durch irgendetwas aufmerksam gemacht, zerstören das Bild. Das Gefühl der Einsamkeit kann doch nie so recht zum Durchbruch kommen, solange man Hunde hat, die die Natur beleben. Ich glaube beinahe, dies ist ein Vorteil. – Nun konstatiere ich auch, daß mir in meiner leichten Kleidung beinahe die Ohren erfroren sind, und die Poesie muß wieder der Realität weichen. Ich nehme mir aber vor, diesen Genuß, von nun an öfter zu verschaffen. Dazu muß ich freilich allein, ganz allein sein. -

The dogs, whose attention is awoken by something or other, shatter the scene. The feeling of loneliness cannot penetrate entirely as long as one has dogs to breathe life into the picture. I would perhaps even say that this is an advantage. – I then also come to the conclusion that in my lightweight clothing, my ears are virtually frozen, and poetry must once again give way to reality. I have decided, however, to make more opportunity from now on to experience this pleasure, but for that I must be alone, completely alone. –
