[096] 12. August [1907]. Heute abend wegen Wind so gut wie mißglückter Ballonaufstieg, sonst nur Photographie. Koch, Lundager und ich wetteifern jetzt in Photographie. Wir haben so – abgesehen von botanischen und See-motiven – namentlich eine Reihe schöne Eismotive entdeckt. Die Bäche durchfließen unterirdisch die perennierenden Schneefelder, und bilden hier die prächtigsten Eistunnels, Gletscherthore und Eissturztrichter. Die großen Trichter, die ich im Frühjahr entdeckte, sind offenbar identisch damit, obwohl wir diese Identität erst bei einem festgestellt haben.
Über der Expedition liegt jetzt eine gewissen Unsicherheit und Nervosität, die sehr wenig heilsam für die verschie-

[096] 12 August [1907]. A mostly unsuccessful balloon deployment this evening due to wind, otherwise only photography. Koch, Lundager and I are competing now in photography. In doing so, we have discovered a series of beautiful ice motifs—in addition to the botanical and marine motifs. The streams flow underground beneath the perennial snow fields and form the most magnificent ice tunnels, glacier caverns and ice funnels. The large funnels which I discovered in spring are obviously identical to these, although we have only confirmed the identity of one of them.
