Audubon’s Birds of America

Birds of America was first published as a series of prints between 1827 and 1838, which, from 1831, were accompanied by a separate text that ran into five volumes. In this work and its many subsequent editions, John James Audubon (1785–1851) created accurate color drawings of North American birds in their natural habitats. It remains one of the most famous natural history publications of all time and influenced most ornithological works that followed.
